On April 25th 2010 the first Bass Federation Nation Trail Event was held at Watchaug Pond in Charlestown, RI.
The winners were Danny Gonsalves and Michael Hilton. I spoke with Michael Hilton after the tournament and this is what he revealed.
The weather was light showers and the temperatures in the low 50's
The water temp was in the high 50s and the fish were not chasing baits.
Within a few minutes they started dead sticking Mayo's Senko type baits and Ika's in green pumpkin. They were fishing in water that was 3 feet or less and the letting the bait sit for more than a few seconds on these potential spawning flats.
They had their limit of 10 fish by 8:30 AM just 1 1/2 hours
after the start of the tournament and started culling fish. Michael does not remember how many fish were culled but he did state that it was a few. Their big fish of the day was over 3 1/2 pounds and their total weight was 17.45 lbs
CONGRATULATIONS to Danny(practice pays off)Gonsalves and Michael Hilton...
